He has coauthored a number of books including: First Freedom: The Beginning and End of Religious Freedom, Upon This Rock: A Baptist Understanding of the Church, and Restoring Integrity in Baptist Churches.

Alvin holds the Bailey Smith Chair of Evangelism and is senior professor of evangelism and student ministry at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is also the pastor to young professionals at Richland Creek Community Church in Wake Forest, North Carolina.

This week on Preaching and Preachers, Art Rainer joins me in a discussion on the preacher and money. Art serves as the Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is also cofounder of Rainer Publishing, and he has written four books: Raising Dad, Simple Life, The Minister’s Salary, and The Money Challenge.

This week on Preaching and Preachers, Phil Newton joins me in a discussion on the pastor and the mentoring church. Phil is senior pastor of South Woods Baptist Church in Memphis, Tennessee. He has recently written The Mentoring Church, and his previous books include Elders in the Life of the Church and Conduct Gospel-Centered Funerals.

This week on Preaching and Preachers, Dr. David Murray joins me for a discussion on the pastor and his rest. Dr. Murray is Professor of Old Testament and Practical Theology at Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary. He is also pastor of Grand Rapids Free Reformed Church.

This week on Preaching and Preachers, Dr. Owen Strachan joins me for a discussion on 5 reasons sermons fail. Dr. Strachan is the Director of the Center for Public Theology at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he also serves as Associate Professor of Christian Theology.

Brian is Associate Professor of Christian Theology and Expository Preaching; as well as, the Program Coordinator for Church Ministry at Boyce College and Southern Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky.

This week on Preaching and Preachers, Drs. Tom Elliff and Jon Elliff join me in a discussion on raising children in the ministry. Dr. Tom Elliff is the father of Jon, founder of Living in the Word Publications, former pastor for forty-two years, IMB president from 2011-2014, and also an IMB missionary to Zimbabwe. His son, Jon, is currently serving as teaching pastor at Makakilo Baptist Church in Hawaii.
